Value Products’ History
Value Products, Inc. was incorporated in 1970 by Mr. Edward G. Langlois. Mr. Langlois’ objective was to become the most progressive, independent detergent compounder in Northern California. This was accomplished by providing products and services comparable to the largest national manufacturers. Prior to establishing VPI, Mr. Langlois spent 18 years working for EcoLab. Mr. Langlois worked as a Production Manager in the Electronic Dispenser Controls Department in St. Paul, MN for ten years before transfering to San Jose, California, where he managed the Detergent Manufacturing Department for the next eight years. From 1970 to 1980, VPI produced and distributed warewashing, laundry and janitorial detergents directly to the end user. VPI’s customer base consisted mainly of local restaurants, hotels and other large institutions. In 1981, VPI discontinued it is direct marketing force and began selling exclusively through distributors. This enabled VPI to concentrate resources on product development and on expanding the manufacturing operation. During this period of expansion, VPI developed several unique products. Dishmachine encapsulated powder detergents, solid pot & pan detergents, solid silver pre-soak detergents and solid all purpose detergents are just a few of VPI’s innovations. Altogether, VPI has developed more than 200 different products for the warewash, laundry and janitorial markets. In the mid-1990’s, VPI established a separate business group to develop its contract packaging capabilities for consumer and industrial products. In order to serve this market, VPI installed high-speed packaging and labeling lines for 16 ounce, one quart, one gallon and five gallon size containers. Contract packaging is now the fastest growing segment of VPI’s business. Through the years, VPI has become an internationally recognized company.
